L.A girl pressed powder review

Hi all,

This weeks post is on the L.A Girl pressed powder! This is the cheapest pressed powder I have ever purchased at NZ $9.04 which is an absolute bargain.

L.A girl cosmetics can be purchased all over the world and is a brand that is really starting to make an impact. You can find a product for every step of your makeup look in there range. They are also cruelty free which is great!

This pressed powder can also be purchased for USD $7 for any American readers. There is also 18 shades in the range which is such a great thing to see a brand do. It can be so hard to find the perfect shade sometimes so that makes it a bit easier.

What I was looking for: The main thing that I look for especially for powders is that it helps reduce shine. Since I have oily skin this is a big thing for me because I do not always want to try and blot and fix up my make up throughout the day. Since this is designed for a matte finish this gets a big tick for what I want!

My first impression: On first application I noticed that the powder is very creamy and silky. It comes with a little puff but I find it evens out my complexion more if applied with a brush and buffing it into my skin. It doesn't appear to clog pores which is an added bonus and looks extremely natural & lightweight so would be great for everyday use.

Can it be built up? This is another thing that I had to consider. Can it be buildable enough that it can work well for everyday work use. So far its good, I have not used it to a thick coverage but its been very easy to get it to a medium but natural pigment on the skin.
This little compact comes with a puff applicator and a mirror so would also be perfect to keep in your bag.

Setting sprays: NYX vs L.A girl

Hi all!,

Welcome all to my blog! Today's post is something a little different that I am interested in maybe doing more often. It may be products with similar uses or even dupes of makeup products!

This weeks post is going to be about two matte setting sprays I have come across recently, maybe one or even both will be available to you in your city!

Nyx matte finish long lasting setting spray vs L.A girl pro H.D setting spray with matte finish.

Nyx: available in a matte and dewy finish spray
L.A girl: Available in a matte finish spray

Nyx's promises : Demand perfection! For that fresh makeup look that lasts, the NYX Makeup Setting Spray - Matte is a gorgeous shine-free matte finish that is lightweight and comfortable while working hard to make sure your makeup stays put.

L.A girl's promises: To keep that matte finish of freshly applied makeup, mist evenly with PRO Setting Spray after makeup has been applied. The lightweight, non-sticky formula sets makeup for all day wear. The ultra-fine mist is refreshing and dries quickly setting makeup to help you stay beautiful longer. Paraben and fragrance free.Helps keep makeup last longer. Natural matte finish

Cost:
Nyx: $19.45 NZD 60ml
L.A girl: $15.99 NZD 30ml

I have worn both of these setting sprays ALOT , every day that I have worn makeup have had one of these on also.

My aim to be able to find products that are similar in price and similar in function as I know completely what it is like to not be able to find products you desperately want in your city but do not like the thought of purchasing things online that you do not know what are like. Keep in mind these are just my own thoughts and you will also be able to find many a reviews on these products!

Nyx
I managed to get the smaller sized sample of this setting spray at a Nyx launch and I felt so lucky! This spray sits wet on the skin for about 1 minute then it sets on the face unnoticeable. I find it does make a difference in my makeup that it looks matte once this is dry on the face. During the day it takes about 5 hours then I notice I am getting oily again around the t-zone. A quick blot and touch up with some form of matte power and my face is back to being matte again. Towards the end of the day after 9 hours use I still have majority of the makeup I started on with which is amazing. This helps the longevity of my makeup more than anything else I have used.

L.A girl
I purchased this right after I received my Nyx setting spray as I was very curious about other setting sprays and this was on sale so I thought well why not! I enjoy this spray a lot, it takes a bit longer to set on my face , about 3 minutes. When it drys it is completely unnoticeable visibly and also to touch. It takes about 3 hours before I notice that I am getting oily again so I blot and touch up as normal but need to do so another 3 hours later. I normally wont blot more than twice a day as I do not have time at work to do that! At the 9 hour mark what I am at home I do not have as much makeup left as I would using the Nyx setting spray but still more than what I would have without any setting spray at all. So in my books this is completely still worth getting.

Overall comparison:
Both setting sprays boast the same promises about making your makeup last longer, stay matte & perfectly lightweight to make your face feel just as comfortable as it was without the setting spray. Both to me do all of the things promised, one maybe has some other ingredients to help with the shine free aspect but other than that these are extremely similar. The Nyx is technically cheaper per ml but if you are looking to spend as little money as possible right now then the l.a girl setting spray would be your choice.

I love what both of these do for me, I use them both equally as I enjoy what outcome they both have . I would repurchase both but will most likely get just what I run out of first and stick with that from now on.

Have you got products you love that you would love me to find a comparison or dupe for? I would love to find more things so let me know!

That is all for now everyone! Have a lovely week

L.A girl matte flat velvet lipstick review & swatches!

Hi all,

I am here today to have a little talk about the new L.A girl matte lipsticks. Something I really love about these lipsticks is that they are cruelty free, I didn't know this until I really looked into the L.A girl brand. Its a fantastic thing to really have on a brand!

There are 26 shades in this collection. Below is a swatch of the range I found online (sorry if its a bit blurry!)

Below are the two colours I purchased. I am starting with just two at this stage and plan to eventually purchase a few more as I go and build up my collection , of course I will branch out to there other lip products soon enough also!

Although these two shades below look very similar on there outer lipstick case they really do swatch completely differently. I find that if my lips are already a little bit dry these do dry it out to the point of being uncomfortable which is a bit annoying but its fine as I normally wear a good Chapstick when I don't have any lipstick on. Other than that for something of this cost there really isn't any down side, there is not much to lose when it comes to this brand. You will find at least one or more shades in this stunning collection of 26 so why not?!? I have found ALOT of places in New Zealand but also worldwide stock this brand so it seems very accessible .

I had heard of the L.A brand previously and to be honest had never looked into it as much as I really should of . Upon going into my local discount/outlet make up store I noticed there display because it had a super gorgeous eye shadow pallet which had the exact shades I was after (more to come on that one!) . I was scanning around and noticed a serious lack of lip products, to me this was so odd as they had foundation in liquid and powder plus numerous other goodies. So I went back home and found out about the matte lipstick products, this brand makes, which as to that day lipstick products are my new thing, whoop whoop!

The product description on the website is:

Introducing our hottest new lip color -Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick.

These 26 bold shades are rich in pigment and filled with moisture in a flat velvet finish. With added shea butter to hydrate lips and a soft, smooth application, your lips will feel as gorgeous as they look!

I find this to be pretty true! I am at the moment not finding these lipsticks as hydrating as I would like but it is winter here!

Today I tried the Matte lipstick shade Snuggle. It is beautiful!
I had my reservations towards trying this brand as its a new brand to me so I wasn't sure what it was like quality wise. The price is great , I spent $9.52 NZ on each lipsticks from the discount store here in NZ , let me know if you would like the link if you are in New Zealand!

It was also a new type of shade for me. Its a browny/nude/pink type colour which I have only ever stayed in the pink sort of range that is fairly close to my own lip shade.

I loved this so so much. I put it on at 7.30 am and found it was harder to use on my cupids bow as it doesnt have as sharp of an angle that im used to so far. Eventually and slowly I got there putting this on my lips without a lip liner. As it was the first time using this I wanted to not use lip liner to see how it lasts and if there are any issues I need to be aware of. I probably shouldnt have picked a work day for that haha!

It turned out well my friends. The texture is lovely and smooth but I found it wasnt to creamy, I would say that this is because the formula is designed to be a matte lipstick rather than a standard lipstick. I have previously found other brands lipsticks that are matte to be creamy also.

I had not read any reviews when it came to how long this would last and if it had good staying power so I was quite unsure what to expect, sometimes I think that that is actually the best way to use a product.

The second lip colour I purchased was the shade Hush, I wear this one more compared to Snuggle which I thought would be the other way around for me based on online swatches but OMG I love love love this colour alot. It is up there with one of my go to colours and I have been carrying it around in my hand bag. I found that this was just as easy to apply once getting used to the lipstick shape .Also both of the lipsticks have this sultry type of vanilla/hazelnut scent, I have never come accross this scent before but oh my its yummy

Snuggle

Hush

The top shade is Hush and the bottom is snuggle
